Serbian Wine Vino Budimir Tamjankia

Vino Budimir is a winery outside the town of Aleksandrovac in the Serbian wine region Zupa which has been growing wine for a very long time. Budimir was the King of Serbia led his troops through the region and delighted as he stopped for the night to have a drink in 1878, still has one vine that survived phylloxera in the late 19th century and grows on the top of the hill.  The vine is called “Guard” as it looks over the winery protecting it from any incursion.

We found a wonderful Sushi place on a Friday afternoon both as the best sushi we have had in Belgrade and for the service and lessons on Serbian Rakija (I owe you a post on this Serbian brandy) served a nice white Vino Budmir Tamjankia.  Again, as with most Serbian wines I have had so far and yes, I have some bottles of wine some commenters to this blog have recommended that we have yet to open,  this was a fine wine just not deep in character.

Tamjankia is a variety of Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains which is known for its aroma.  The Budimir has a playful fruit and floral scent.  While I was not able to determine which fruit or flower it is a pleasure on the nose.  The wine is very light and crispy.  It has a light mouthfeel and is well balanced.  The wine was a very good compliment for sushi and one I would buy again.

Živeli!
