Restoran Kovač.
Another of the really good Serbian cuisine restaurants in Belgrade is Restoran Kovač. It has a delightful patio for the summer. The service is excellent and the food is top-notch. They have a lovely Serbian wine list and they can recommend wines that will match your food choices. It is a little ways from downtown but worth the walk as it goes by St Marks, the Parliament and Presidential Palace, and two of the most important parks in Belgrade. Also from downtown, it is probably only a three or four dollar taxi ride.
They have a full menu of traditional Serbian food. They bake their bread every day with flours milled from a private mill. We have had the hot grilled peppers as an appetizer the times we have been. This is a common appetizer in Serbian restaurants and will vary in how hot but never really Texas jalapeño hot. The best thing is they are covered in olive oil and garlic, so dip the great bread in that mixture. They have two “sač” dinners for two, Veal and Lamb. The “sač” is a large bowl, like a shallow metal bell that is placed over the food on the grill and the coals are placed over the bowl much like a Dutch oven. This a full meal for sure. It comes with potatoes over „kajmak“ spread, ajvar and horseradish. I liked the veal better but they both are excellent. Ella has a hamburger and likes it very much perfect for a younger child.
This a restaurant well worth exploring if in Belgrade
