Buying a Condo in Serbia–The Living Room

Now you get to see over the next few weeks what the apartment we purchased in Belgrade, which is almost completed, looks like.  Just a few things left to finish.  As I mentioned in one of the earlier posts about new construction in Serbia, you end up with just a box.  There are pipes coming out the walls where the water will come for sinks, holes in the floor for drains, and electric wires coming down from the ceiling for lights.  You must hire the workers to finish it out as you wish.  In some cases, you have to make some modifications, especially with the lights.

I mentioned before we used RMJM to help us design the interior.  The owners are friends and they did spectacular work.  Their assistants did most of the measurements and drawings, but the ideas came from Goren and Jelena and of course us.

So here is the living room:

We wanted a gold wall on one side of the room next to the large dining room table that is custom-built. We put up the gold wallpaper. Goren suggested the mirror and it is a perfect addition.  We bought the dining room chairs which Ella wanted blue. The couch was supposed to be grey and this is so funny when we bought a couch in Boston, we wanted grey and it showed up the same color.

The faux pored concrete wall painting was my wife’s idea, I just added in that there should be the circles that look like the rebar supporting the wall there to give it the look of Louis Kahn’s Kimble Art Museum where we were married.  You can see our carpenter’s custom storage under the TV.

The vases were just collected over time mainly from Fort Worth.
