Hotel Lepenski Vir
This must be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I know I am jaded, lifetime Marriott Platinum and Hilton Honors, I have stayed in the Van Cliburn Suite in Fort Worth, the Lady Bird Johnson Suite in DC, and the top floor of the Marriott Downtown in NYC, to name a few. Numerous hotels around the world. None were as big of a piece of trash as this hotel.
When you first arrive, you are not even sure the hotel is open there are only a couple of cars in the parking lot and everything looks abandon. Walking into the reception desk everything is dark they have turned out all the lights. We had booked a room for three people through Trip Advisor but at check-in they told us they have no three bedrooms and that we must pay for two rooms. It was then we started asking about the spa and pool.
In Trip Advisor there was a pool and several spas including my wife’s favorite the salt spa. At registration, they told us it was all closed down. They said it was due to the virus however we were just the day before at another spa 100 km away. Later over dinner, the locals laughing at us for booking there we were told the spa has not worked since the new owner bought the property from the municipality.
It seems the new owner never had enough money to do the upgrades and repairs needed for an old Communist Hotel. Hardly anyone goes there now. It is in horrible shape needs painting and a lot of fixing. I had to ask for them to turn the lights on in our hallway to get to the room and they never did. The only thing that was mildly pleasant was the breakfast the next morning. The weather was nice, so it was out on the balcony and the food was acceptable.
Perhaps if this guy gets some investor and puts some money into the hotel is could be nice again. For now, stay very far away. Go for the local Air BnBs.
