Holy Smokes Texas BBQ in Belgrade

Holy Smokes is as close to Texas BBQ as you are going to find in Belgrade. I didn’t give it much of a chance when we ordered but in the end, I was amazed at how close it came to the real thing.

The first restaurant I ever went to was in Fort Worth, the BBQ place called Angelo’s which is still there today. They celebrated their 50th anniversary about ten years back. I have been going there ever since. At one point my Grandfather who ran a hardware store, not like any hardware store you can imagine, sharpened their knives. When we first went there I was crazy about the full-size stuffed bear, the head of dear and game on the wall, and the sawdust covering the floor. The animals are still there, the sawdust is gone. You can still get a huge cold mug of Budweiser beer, and recently they started taking credit cards.

This brings me to Holy Smokes that must have some roots in Texas BBQ. Again we have not been to the restaurant yet, just ordered online due to the virus but I was pleasantly surprised and we plan to order and go again often. It is in New Belgrade which makes delivery the best option since you can’t walk there.

We had the ribs and the brisket and ordered enough to last for a few days. We also had the coleslaw that more like Texas BBQ than Serbian cabbage and an excellent potatoe salad. Both the meats were cooked to perfection and there are a few different sauces to order and try as well. If you like BBQ you will like the selection here. I hear the burger is very good as well.

Perhaps this is not the restaurant you want to try if you are just here for a few days of vacation, but if you are like me, a resident yearning for Texas BBQ, this is a great option to try.
