Belgrade Architecture Week

Belgrade Architecture week started this past Friday with the opening at the Belgrade Culture Center which is located at the beginning (depending on which way you are walking I guess) of the Pedestrian Street, Knez Mihailova Street. A bit different this year in that it is a combination of online and in-person events. My wife is one of the founders and is usually heavily involved with the planning and accompanying text and articles.

This year’s theme is on Belgrade Public Housing and like years past will feature architectural stars from other countries in lectures as well as some of the local Serbian stars who have unique knowledge of the topics. When there is no virus scare there are tours that can include several people visiting sites related to the topic of the year.

It is certainly something to keep in mind when planning a trip to visit Belgrade to include some of the lectures and tours of the city with experts that are free to the public. Usually done in the Spring I highly recommend a few hours for anyone interested in architecture, history or the sociology of a place.
