The Serbian Dichotomy
Serbs are a walking dichotomy. On one hand, they can be rude and aggressive on the other hand they can be the kindest people you have ever met.
Don’t get between a Serb and the door opening on the bus for sure if you ride the bus you will be cut off or pushed out of the way. In many ways the older the other person is the more aggressive they can be. They don’t want to wait and want to find their place on the bus. Much like New York City, pedestrians can seem very rude. In the crowded areas around bus stops, the last thing on their mind is a concern for anyone but themselves. Serbs are professionals in figuring out ways to get to the front of the line. Again especially older Serbs who have been standing in long lines forever. They also can be very nosy. Walking up close by listening to you discussing an issue with the bank teller and will on occasion even get involved with the discussion without being asked.
On the other hand, there can not be a more friendly and helpful people. While I already had examples of that I have really seen that with my leg in a cast and usually out in a wheelchair. On several occasions, men just helped pick me up in the chair or pushed me up a steep ramp or without being asked just started helping. Before I had smaller examples already of their friendly ess. Once at a big birthday party at the river, I spilled oil from the roasted pig all over my shirt. One of the men there I was sitting with that was hardly known to me or my wife went back to his boat got me a brand new shirt to put on and just gave it to me. When you have workers you almost always have a cup of coffee with them and sit and chat for a while. Go to a Serbs house for dinner and there will be enough food and drink for twice as many guest that are invited.
In general, you will not find nicer and more friendly people than Serbians.
