Our Week at the Montenrin Coast Part One

We were off for a week at the Montenegrin coast for Ella to swim and us to eat lots of fish. There is no easy way to get there yet by car, it takes eight hours so coming and going we divided it up to stop for the night and take a break.

Our stop going was the Mileševa Monastery. A Serbian Orthodox monastery located near Prijepolje, in southwest Serbia. It was founded by King Stefan Vladislav I, in the years between 1234 and 1236. My wife’s first job after graduating from architecture school was working for the Institute of Cultural Preservation and she went there to work over the summer. They all would stay nearby and work the entire summer at the different Monasteries.

It is wonderful and has many important relics and paintings and frescos and they have done so much to restore the Monastery over the years. Moving the bell tower, adding some residences, and of course all the restorations that my wife and others did to return it to glory. My wife even sketched out the gold crosses on top of the church in several places.

They have rooms for a night, no TV, no wifi, just a very nice bed a lovely bathroom with a shower for 10 euros per night per person.
It was such a restful sleep.

Just down the street is Restoran i ribnjak “Kanjon” which is not special except for the trout. There are several restaurants in the area that are on one of the streams with trout, and have tanks to keep them ready to pull out fresh and serve. Grilled trout fresh from the stream is very special.

It was a lovely evening before our drive over the moutains to the Montenegrin coast the next morning.
