Kod Mića
Likely if you visit Serbia, you will not end up driving south on the Milos the Great Highway to Montenegro, but if you are Kod Mića is a restaurant where you should plan to stop for the sausage and pork. One of the best Serbian restaurants I have visited is just minutes away from our summer home. As an aside, there are literally hundreds of great Serbian restaurants throughout the country for you to explore.
You take the Takovo Exist off the toll road, which will take you into the malo selo (small village) of Drenova. The area is the sight of the 2nd Serbian uprising leading to Milos being the de facto ruler of Serbia as pronounced by the Ottoman Sultan. The village has a small store, two restaurants, and a very cute and well-maintained Serbian Orthodox Church. A small stream runs through the town that is spring fed and can often be a source of swimming and cooling-off.
As I said, you come to Kod Mića for the sausage and pork. The bread is fantastic and best with the domestic kajmak, a creamy white cheese. You will want a salad, especially the Srpska salad with the shredded white cheese on top of the fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. Other options include cabbage salad, tomatoes with shredded cheese, and cucumbers with shredded cheese. I never go there without adding the roasted hot peppers in oil and a little vinegar topped with diced garlic. I am hungry now, just thinking about it.
The restaurant is small but very popular, meaning you should make a reservation. They do not open until 1:00 PM and close for a couple of weeks in July since August has become the most popular month for those with summer home visiting. Even in the winter, they can be packed inside.
