Bosnia Višegrad
We didn’t have time to see much of Visegrad except for our hotel and the bridge. We stayed at the Hotel Visegrad right at the end of the bridge. And from the porch of the hotel restaurant, we had a fantastic view of the bridge.
It is incredible to sit and stare at the bridge, so old, and imagine all the drops of water that have flowed under it since the 1500s. Andrić Book describes life there from when construction started down through the generations. I am halfway through the book; only sorry that I can’t read it in the original Servo-Croatian language.
Our room was where he stayed when he wrote the book, first published in 1945. In the room, there still is the original typewriter, phone, a picture of him over the desk, and a copy of his book. The hotel has been renovated since then, as the rooms do not look seventy years old.
We got there, sat on the porch, had dinner, and woke up the next morning having breakfast (the food was fantastic)at the same table before driving back to Belgrade, the escape from our city over. We returned to fantastic weather after the enormous storms that passed through a week before we returned, with our apartment perfectly safe.
